Giving something back - Towpath Talk

23 Aug 2010

ENVIRONMENTALLY friendly toilet product manufacturers, One Chem, are set to offer 'something back' to the waterways and their upkeep. Following a meeting with the IWA, the cassette toilet and holding tank cleaner producers will donate 10 pence to the IWA for every bottle of solution sold at chandlers and marine wholesalers throughout the UK.

Hadrian Garner and Jon Oakes founded the company last year, with great enthusiasm for the great outdoors and boating. The newly launched firm has recently been nominated and shortlisted for the Birmingham Chamber Group Start-up Business Awards and for the semi-finals of ‘The Pitch’, in recognition of their entrepreneurial efforts.

“While researching our family histories, we found that both our families had strong ties to the canal industry during its heyday in the Midlands,” said Mr Garner.

“The canal world was once at the heart of industry in this country; we want to reflect this in our environmentally friendly products manufactured in the UK, supporting the upkeep of the waterways for future generations.”

Jon Oakes added: “Since getting more involved with this industry on a purely leisure basis, we have been overwhelmed with the generosity and sense of community the towpath offers. It is for this reason that we wanted to offer something back, hence the 10 pence from every bottle sold of Cassette Toilet and Holding Tank from the One-Chem range out of chandlers and marines for a 12-month period.”
